New York, New York - SDSN Youth and Human Act are partnering this December raise awareness worldwide about the Move Humanity initiative, which aims to close the global financing gap for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by mobilizing 1% of the richest individuals’ wealth towards the implementation of the SDGs. This could lift 1 billion people out of extreme poverty, save more than 6 million children per year from dying from preventable diseases before their fifth birthday, put 263 million children through primary and secondary school, and give future generations a chance by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing resilience to climate change.
There will be several events and online campaigns taking place between Nov 30th and December 16th in Greece, Turkey (Ankara and Istanbul), Russia, Korea, Philippines, Bhutan, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ecuador, Brazil, Canada, Sweden, Hong Kong, and Australia. The goal of the events and the campaign is to raise awareness about this initiative and inspire billionaires to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Lead by SDSN Youth’s Network Coordinators and SDG Coordinators, each event is anticipating around 300~500 students and community members to participate. Experts, professors, organization representatives from relevant fields are invited to join the events as panelists and keynote speakers. Along with speeches and presentations, video messages from Mr. Djaffar Shalchi, Founder and Executive Director of Move Humanity, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of SDSN, and Mr. Siamak Sam Loni, Global Coordinator of SDSN Youth will be presented to participants to deepen their understanding of the urgency of closing the SDG financing gap.
