YOUTH, PEACE & SECURITY

By mobilizing opinions and research around the interplay between climate change and youth empowerment, we hope to define a new vision for the role of young people in solving sustainable development challenges

In 2015, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2250, the first ever thematic resolution on Youth, Peace & Security. The resolution is a landmark agreement for the positive role young people play in managing conflict and establishing peace processes.

Also in 2015, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals were agreed by 193 UN Member States to shape the global agenda for sustainable development. In support of Resolution 2250 and the Sustainable Development Goals, SDSN Youth has produced a thematic paper on the impact of Climate Change on Youth, Peace & Security.

Our thematic paper investigates the impact of climate change on the security and development prospects of young people across the globe, as well as examining how ownership of the Sustainable Development Goals could promote the case for youth-led development.

With the help of an Academic Advisory Committee and a vast network of partners, we will strive to advance youth involvement in the realization of the 2030 Agenda while celebrating the invaluable contribution of young people to sustainable development.
