Strathmore continues to be an important pillar of the global SDG Students Program network. Once in a while, we see quarterly reports professionally designed by their dedicated SDG Students Hub team, detailing the hub’s activities and future goals.
We interviewed Ezra Yego, our SDG Coordinator at Strathmore University, to learn more about his journey with the program so far and what impact the hub has had on him and his local community.
Ezra is a third-year student studying Finance and Entrepreneurship at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya.
Back in 2017, Ezra was a fresh-eyed first-year who had just completed an internship at an oil and gas company. Dazzled by his performance, the company retained him by offering him a paid part-time role during the school year.
At the same time, Vicky - the previous SDG Coordinator - was setting up our first SDG Hub in Strathmore.
While settling into his new job, an advertisement for the SDG Hub captured Ezra’s imagination. “When I saw that it was an initiative about the SDGs, I was intrigued. I had heard about them from where I was working because we were doing a lot of work on infrastructure. And the SDGs are just such a colourful thing, it triggers your mind. I had done quite a lot of readings about it.”
So when Vicky’s email came with the opportunity to work on SDGs and young people, Ezra took a bold chance.
