This International Youth Day, we join the UN Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth in highlighting young people innovating for a more sustainable world!
In celebration of the International Youth Day, we at SDSN Youth, the official youth initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), are participating in the UN Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth's first #YouthLead Innovation Festival as a partner for the Festival's Spotlight Sessions, a virtual event on the sidelines of the official program.
As the focus of the Festival is to highlight the role of young solutions makers and innovators, we are hosting a Spotlight Session titled "Youth for Climate Solutions: Elevating the voices and solutions of young people to protect the future of our planet" on August 11, 9:30am (ET) ahead of the Festival, to showcase young innovators who are already making a positive change for the climate, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities for young people who want to solve the climate crisis.
Panelists include Julia Blocher, President of the International Youth Federation and Brighton Kaoma, Global Director of SDSN Youth, both of whom have extensive experience working with youth empowerment, sustainable development and climate research.
Two youth innovators featured in our Youth Solutions Report 2020, Xiomara Acevedo Navarro, Founder of Barranquilla +20, a non-profit based in Colombia, and Chiyanika Nakasamu, Founder of Project Pollen, a for-profit from Zambia, are also joining us at the panel to share first-hand experience of developing innovative climate solutions on the ground.

About SDSN Youth
SDSN Youth is one of the world’s biggest networks of young leaders working together to accelerate solutions towards the Sustainable Development Goals. We connect young people to pathways of understanding and action - to shape a sustainable world for future generations. SDSN Youth was launched in 2015 by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, at the 5th meeting of the SDSN Leadership Council in Paris. Over the past 5 years, we have expanded rapidly, with 750 member organizations in 85 countries. Leveraging the work of partners in the UN, academia, civil society, business, and government - SDSN Youth has provided the training and resources to enable thousands of young people to make change. We lead a number of global and local initiatives on education advocacy for K-12; sustainable campuses; sustainable cities; and entrepreneurship. We believe that young people can make a difference in the world, and if we act now, we will create a better and more sustainable future for everyone.
